McGuinness and Cullinane: Smaller Budget Package Will Leave Waterford Behind

Waterford Sinn Féin TDs Conor D. McGuinness and David Cullinane have criticised the Government’s decision to reduce the overall Budget 2027 package, warning it will mean fewer resources for Waterford and another year of broken promises on housing, healthcare and infrastructure.

Deputy Conor D. McGuinness said:

“The Government has announced a budget package that is almost €900 million smaller than last year’s despite the fact that families are still struggling with the cost of living and communities like Waterford are crying out for investment.

“People across Waterford expect action on housing, better public services, investment in our roads, rural communities and essential infrastructure. Instead, this Government is signalling that it is prepared to do less.

“A smaller budget package means more broken promises. It risks delaying the investment our county needs and leaves workers and families paying the price.”

Deputy David Cullinane added:

“This decision shows a Government that is completely out of touch with the reality facing people every day. Hospital waiting lists remain too long, the housing crisis continues to deepen, and families are still dealing with high living costs.

“Waterford cannot afford another budget that underinvests in healthcare, housing and the infrastructure our region needs to grow. The Government should go back to the drawing board and produce a budget that meets the scale of the challenges facing communities across Waterford and the country.”

The Waterford TDs said Budget 2027 must prioritise investment in housing, healthcare, public services and infrastructure rather than repeating what they described as another year of Government underinvestment.
