I’m Conor McGuinness, Sinn Féin TD for Waterford.

I’ve been involved in republican politics since my teens. The principles that first drew me into political activism—Irish unity, national sovereignty, equality, fairness and social justice—continue to shape the way I approach public life.

Originally from Dungarvan, I live in An Rinn, in the heart of Gaeltacht na nDéise, where I’m raising my three children through Irish. The language has always been an important part of my identity, and living in the Gaeltacht has only deepened my appreciation for the communities, culture and traditions that make our part of Ireland unique.

Before being elected to Dáil Éireann, I served as a councillor on Waterford City & County Council. Today, I have the privilege of representing Waterford in our national parliament.

I’m a trade unionist and a strong advocate for workers’ rights and equality. I believe politics should be rooted in communities and focused on making people’s lives better. Housing is the defining challenge facing my generation, and I believe every family should have the security of a place to call home. Alongside that, I’m committed to strengthening public services, supporting rural Ireland, protecting our natural and maritime resources, and ensuring that Waterford gets the investment, infrastructure and opportunities it deserves.

As Sinn Féin spokesperson on Rural Affairs, Community Development and the Gaeltacht, and as Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, I have the opportunity to champion many of the issues that matter most to Waterford. Whether I’m working on national policy or helping someone with a local issue, my approach is the same: listen carefully, know the detail, speak plainly and work hard.

I’m optimistic about Waterford’s future. We have ambitious people, resilient communities and extraordinary potential. My job is to make sure our county has a strong voice and to help build an Ireland that offers opportunity, fairness and security to everyone.
