Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, Conor D. McGuinness, has praised the organisers, participants and volunteers behind this year’s Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan in Lismore, describing it as a tremendous success that showcased the very best of Irish traditional music, song and dance.

Deputy McGuinness said the week-long festival demonstrated what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering such an outstanding Fleadh. From the organising committee and volunteers to the musicians, dancers, singers, local businesses and residents, it was a real community effort and one that Lismore can be immensely proud of.

“The atmosphere throughout the town was fantastic. Lismore looked magnificent, and in speaking with both visitors and locals it was clear there was a genuine sense that this year’s Fleadh had been a tremendous success.

“Events like Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan are so important. They celebrate and preserve our rich tradition of Irish music, song and dance while also bringing communities together and introducing thousands of visitors to places like Lismore and West Waterford.

Deputy McGuinness said the benefits of hosting major cultural events extend well beyond the closing ceremony.

“The economic impact cannot be overlooked. Local accommodation providers, cafés, restaurants, pubs and shops all benefit from the increased footfall during the event, but the legacy is important too. Many people who discover West Waterford for the first time will return in the months and years ahead.

“This was a wonderful showcase for Lismore and for the wider region. It has once again demonstrated that West Waterford is capable of hosting major events of the highest standard, and everyone involved deserves enormous credit for making it happen.”
