‘Years of campaigning and still no progress’: McGuinness demands action on West Waterford Primary Care Centre

Sinn Féin TD for Waterford, Conor D. McGuinness, has called on the Government and HSE to end delays and deliver a primary care centre serving Tallow, Lismore, Cappoquin and the wider West Waterford area.

Deputy McGuinness said the need for the facility was clear, yet years of campaigning had failed to produce meaningful progress.

Questioning Minister of State Mary Butler in the Dáil, McGuinness said:

“West Waterford needs a primary care centre to serve Tallow, Lismore, Cappoquin and the wider area.

“Despite years of campaigning and despite the clear need and demand, there has been no meaningful progress.

“What is needed now is a positive decision from the HSE.

“Alongside Councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy and Deputy David Cullinane, I have raised this issue with the HSE and the Minister for Health.

“Further delay risks us losing the opportunity to deliver the primary care facilities that this part of West Waterford needs.”

Deputy McGuinness commended the work being undertaken by GPs across the area and said rural communities needed greater access to health services and additional investment to meet local demand.

He said families across West Waterford should not have to accept continued uncertainty over essential healthcare facilities.

“Will the Government intervene to end the delay and ensure the HSE moves urgently to deliver a primary care centre for West Waterford?

“The people of this area deserve a clear decision and a credible path towards delivery, not another period of delay.”
