Common sense approach will ensure Santa’s return to the Strand – McGuinness

Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness has added his voice to the calls for a ‘common sense approach’ to ensure that a special visitor from the North Pole can visit the Strand in Lismore again this year.

Speaking after the community rally in Lismore McGuinness said:

“ am very proud to stand with the community here in Lismore and to signal my strong support for ‘Santa at the Strand’. This event is extremely well run – it is a wonderful experience for children in the run up to Christmas and helps raise much needed funds for S. Carthage’s and other services for older people in the area.

“Several hundred people braved thundery downpours to walk through Lismore, from St. Catharge’s to the Strand, to show their support for the event and to encourage a common-sense approach from planning and regulatory authorities. The turn out was a clear demonstration of the depth of feeling locally and the desire of the community for a sensible outcome that allows the event to take place later this year.

“I will continue to work towards a resolution that allows Santa return to his grotto at the Strand.”
