McGuinness calls for movement on Affordable Serviced Sites scheme

Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness has called on Waterford City and County Council to drive the delivery of affordable serviced sites across Co. Waterford. He made the comments following the February meeting of the local authority held in City Hall.

McGuinness said:

“The affordable services sites scheme is designed to make sites available to individuals and couples that wish to build their first home, at an affordable rate and, crucially, with services such as water, electricity and sewerage already in place.

“Many people that approach me regarding affordable housing raise the possibility of them building themselves, if only they could find a suitable and affordable site. Those that can access sites may not be able to secure planning permission, and many sites with permission are too costly.

“These sites will come serviced, with outline planning permission, and at a reduced cost. I am keen to see Council management progress this scheme and make sites available in towns, villages and rural areas across West Waterford as part of the overall solution to the housing crisis.
