Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness has said that Uisce Éireann must be held to account for the disruption and damage causes by the mains replacement works carried out in Dungarvan over recent months. The Dungarvan representative has been highly critical of the water utility over its lack of accountability. He has also slammed the body over its failure to communicate adequately with residents and businesses prior to and during recent works in the town.
McGuinness said:
“I have been very critical of Uisce Éireann and its contractor regarding the mains replacement works in Dungarvan. I have highlighted a litany of serious failings that have caused significant disruption around town.
“I am also very concerned about the damage caused to roads, footpaths and green areas, as well as private gardens. There is an onus on Uisce Éireann to put these right without delay.
“While some surfaces and footpaths were not in great condition to begin with, the impact of the works has left them in much, much worse condition.
“As part of their works licensing they will have signed up to repair damage caused to the public realm. They must be held to these conditions to ensure this is done, and is done to an adequate standard. Throwing a shovel of tarmac across a broken footpath and walking away is not good enough. Uisce Éireann must be held accountable.”
