Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness has called on Waterford City and County Council to ‘get to grips’ with the many parking pay stations in the town that are frequently out-of-order.
McGuinness said:
“The frequency with which parking pay stations are out-of-order in Dungarvan and Abbeyside is causing confusion and inconvenience across the town, for both local people and visitors alike.
“It seems there is barely a day goes by when at least one of the towns’ pay stations is not out-of-order.
“This isn’t groundbreaking new technology – we can’t blame teething problems for this.
“There is little or no forgiveness for anyone that doesn’t have a valid ticket displayed on their car, however the Council is quite happy to have someone walk across the town to find a working machine. Added to that is the anxiety that they may have received a fine in the time it takes to find a working machine.
“While many people are content to use the parking app, this isn’t the case fo everyone. For as long as the Council charges for parking it must accept cash as legal tender. Its long past time for the local authority to get to grips with this issue.’
