Sinn Féin general election candidate and councillor Conor D. McGuinness has said that Waterford City and County Council needs to show ambition when it comes to supporting proposals for a public swimming pool in Dungarvan. The West Waterford public representative made the comments after he and party running mate David Cullinane TD held a meeting with those involved in the local campaign to develop a public swimming pool in Dungarvan.
McGuinness said:
“Waterford City and County Council needs to demonstrate a level of ambition when it comes to the demand for a public swimming pool for Dungarvan and West Waterford.
There is a groundswell of demand for a swimming pool in the town – coming from swimmers, parents, clubs, schools, tourism operators, and those involved in promoting water safety.
“Other towns with similar demographics and catchment areas have very well run public pools, and the feasibility study commissioned by the Council last year makes clear that there is sufficient demand locally to make this project worthwhile.
“I have said this to Council management both privately and publicly – we need to see a level of ambition from the Council when it comes to developing an amenity of this scale in Dungarvan. I will continue to advocate for a public swimming pool in Dungarvan at both local and national level.”
