Sinn Féin general election candidate and councillor Conor D. McGuinness has said that the failure by the HSE to fill the Registrar vacancy at Dungarvan is another example of the neglect of the town and the wider West Waterford area.
Cllr. McGuinness said:
“I have been campaigning for this vacancy to be filled since it arose earlier this year, as have several other representatives including former Councillor Seamus O’Donnell.
“This is an essential service for any community, for both happy occasions such as registering a birth or preparing for marriage – or for the sad occasion when someone has to register the death of a loved on.
“It is so important that we have a registrar here in Dungarvan to serve the town and West Waterford.
“The failure to fill this vacancy, many months after it arose is down to the neglect and indifference shown to West Waterford by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. The fact that neither the Deptartment of Health nor its Ministers have resolved this issue despite the clear calls from people and public representatives locally is symptomatic of a wider disinterest when it comes to West Waterford. It begs the question – what is the point of having a junior minister in the Department of Health if something as simple and important as this cannot be resolved.
“The coming general election gives us a change to change this government – and to replace it with a new one with fresh ideas, clear plans and a new approach.”
