McGuinness comments on violence scenes in Dungarvan

Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness comments on a number of violent incidents in Dungarvan during the weekend beginning 14th August.

“I have received reports of a number of violent disturbances over the weekend. I do not wish to say anything that could negatively impact on investigation or prosecutions.

“Violence has no place on our streets. There needs to be a zero tolerance approach to feud or gang related criminality in our town, including fighting and intimidation. In many instances there is a clear link to drug dealing and other forms of criminality.

“I have already raised concerns about these disturbances with Garda management, and I am on the record in calling for additional resources and dedicated policing plans to be put in place to tackle outbreaks of feud and gang related violence.

“Those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, including those involved in producing so-called ‘call out’ videos, procuring weapons etc.
“We have enough challenges to face as a society without having violent disturbances unfold on our streets.

“I will be raising this matter at the next meeting of Waterford’s Joint Policing Committee to seek assurances that additional resources will be made available to the Dungarvan Garda District to tackle the scourge of feud and gang related violence. “
