Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness lead Dungarvan-Lismore Council in congratulating Co. Waterford man Edmond Phelan on his recent election as President of the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association.
McGuinness said:
“I invite my fellow Councillors to join with me in congratulating a Co. Waterford man, who has recently been elected President of one of Ireland’s major farmer representative organisations.
“Edmond Phelan has proved himself an able advocate for farmers and rural communities. He has been particularly strong in standing up for smaller farmers, the dry stock sector and farmers in marginal lands.
“With CAP reform, Brexit, the proposed Mercosur deal and environmental issues dominating the agenda it’s clear that Edmond will have a busy time ahead. I am confident that he will provide effective leadership in facing these challenges and I wish him well in his new role.”
