Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness secured the unanimous support of Dungarvan-Lismore District Council for his motion calling for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to make funding available for dredging at Cé Heilbhic fisheries harbour.
McGuinness said:
“Not only is Cé Heilbhic an important fishing harbour that provides employment locally, it also hosted the RNLI lifeboat that serves all of Dungarvan Bay and the seas adjacent.
“The harbour is in dire need of dredging to enable boats enter and leave the harbour. The build up of sand and silt has renedered the harbour unusable at low tides. Livelihoods are already at risk and it’s only a matter of time before lives are put at risk too.
“I welcome the cross party support for my motion and my hope is that local councillors will work together to lobby for funding to be made available as a matter of urgency.”
