Sinn Féin Councillor Conor D. McGuinness has received confirmation that the long delayed County Development Plan review process will begin on 20th July this year. McGuinness has been outspoken in his criticism of the failure to develop an up-to-date development plan over recent years.
“Waterford Council is relying on an out-of-date county development plan that should have expired in 2017. This plan was put together almost a decade ago and is no longer fit for purpose. I have been critical of the failure to enact a new plan over the past number of years, so I welcome confirmation that the initial review phase that precedes the drafting of a new plan will begin this summer.
“Initially scheduled to being in March this year, the process was suspended due to public health concerns. The Council is currently putting together plans to facilitate a full process of public engagement. The new development plan will underpin planning decisions for years to come so it is very important that the people get to have their say on this matter.”
